Tevis Energy: Husky Heating Oil

Glenwood, MD is a charming Howard County community with an interesting past. While Glenwood homeowners love the warm spring and summer temperatures, the harsh winter weather can make it difficult to affordably heat a home. Thankfully, Husky Heating Oil offers cost-effective, clean-burning heating oil to all Glenwood, MD area residents.

The Glenwood area was first settled in the early 18th century by the Warfield and Ridgley families. Both families owned numerous large tobacco plantations including Bushy Park, Longwood and Ellerslie.

In the early 1800s, James Matthews purchased a farm and home from Caleb Dorsey and opened the first post office in town. He named the town Matthews Store. Later in the century, the Glenwood post office opened and renamed the town. In an interesting turn of events, James Matthews’ son was the one to open the new post office and rename the community.

Bushy Park plantation is located on a massive, 3,900+ acre land patent called Ridgley’s Great Park. This plantation was the home of Charles Alexander Warfield. Warfield was part of the group of men who went to Annapolis to burn the Peggy Stewart in response to sanctions placed on citizens after the Boston Tea Party. Longwood was another notable plantation in Glenwood, MD. Longwood was constructed in the 1780s by Gustavius Warfield. This plantation hosted Robert E. Lee in 1860 and again after the war in 1870.

Glenwood, MD is a community that lies between Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C., which makes it a desirable destination for commuters that work in either city. The town features wide swaths of open space and plenty of trees and wildlife.

If you are a Glenwood, MD homeowner searching for a more affordable way to heat your home during the ice and winter weather-filled Maryland winters, Husky Heating Oil can help.
